In the early evening of October 1, 1969, Ellsberg took out the 1964–1965 volumes of the McNamara study, which filled two drawers of his office safe at RAND, to photocopy.
With Russo’s help, Ellsberg Xeroxed the pages, and then worked alone until 5:30 the next morning.
These last two sets were stored at RAND, with the approval from Laird’s office, and Halperin called Harry Rowen to make the arrangement.
Anticipating strong demand, the Times published a much larger run than usual of its Sunday issue of June 13, 1971.
